The BiCi Co. program, is providing an opportunity to improve youth and adult safety, while also increasing our community’s mobility and access to jobs in the City of Hartford. Bici is the Spanish motto for bicicleta and Co. stands for comunidad (community). Located at 95-97 Park Street at the edge of downtown, BiCi Co. is a bike outlet and a safe space for bike enthusiasts and future riders. BiCi Co.’s successful summer pilot program had 30 teens learning bike safety, mechanics, and history. Now BiCi Co. is expanding to include year-round programs and services for adults and youth. CENTER/LULAC Technology Center demystifies technology and transforms it into a tool for community strength. The Center for Latino Progress is equipped with 2 computers labs (Apple and PC technology), featuring high-speed internet. Since 2005, our E-Workplace Basics program, according to the CT Department of Education, has consistently measured in the top 25th percentile statewide in overall performance goals.
FUTUROS is the Center for Latino Progress’ formalized youth programming. FUTUROS combines curriculums, services, STEM (bike mechanics), and activities that provide youth with a well-rounded foundation and view of what it means to be prepared to enter the workforce, as well as focus and embark on a college experience. The program includes cultural exploration to ensure youth are able to broaden their interests and skill sets that will facilitate success no matter which path they choose. Learn more
The Center for Latino Progress is the only Latino agency in Connecticut recognized and accredited by the Bureau of Immigration Appeals (BIA) to provide legal and linguistically appropriate services, and culturally competent naturalization programs to the growing legal permanent resident population in the area. The Summer Youth Employment and Learning program includes classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and compensation. Its curriculum includes workshops in career counseling, time management, leadership development, diversity management, computer basics, language, analytical skills, and math. The on-the-job training component takes place in various non-profit agencies throughout the city and private corporations.
