The Center for Latino Progress, through its BiCi Co. program, is providing an opportunity to improve youth and adult safety, while also increasing our community’s mobility and access to jobs in the City of Hartford. Bici is the Spanish motto for bicicleta (bicycle) and Co. stands for comunidad (community). Located at 95-97 Park Street at the edge of downtown, BiCi Co. is a bike outlet and a safe space for bike enthusiasts and future riders. BiCi Co.’s successful summer pilot program had 30 teens learning bike safety, mechanics, and history. Now BiCi Co. is expanding to include year-round programs and services for adults and youth.
Two-wheeled human powered transport is popular among Hartford teens and adults for both transportation and recreation. When the last bike shop in Hartford closed in 2014, the Center for Latino Progress realized that this was an opportunity to create a community bike shop with youth programming that would go beyond the simple need for transportation and address multiple community needs.
Membership Hours – Weekly scheduled hours for members to come in and work on their own bicycle, or a friend’s bicycle. You can also come in to hang out or shadow an experienced bike mechanic. During member hours, the work stands, tools, and experienced mechanics (and other members) will enable hands-on learning and DIY bicycle maintenance.
Member Discount – A 25% discount on parts and accessories at BiCi Co.
Membership Levels – We are always looking for new members! Use the Center for Latino Progress’ online donation page. Include BiCi Co. and the membership level in the “designation” field in the online form.
Building your network, connecting our community – BiCi Co. will greatly increase your connections with other bicycle and active transportation/transit advocates in the Hartford area. In addition to the nuts and bolts, bicycles build our community connections.

Earn-A-Bike is for Hartford area teens between the ages of 13 and 19. This program is more hands-on bicycle based learning. At the end of the class participants get to keep the bicycle they tuned up themselves, along with bike lights and a bike lock.
